Book signing at CSA, January 2008

Ms. Khadija S. Hammond, American author and Egyptologist, came to Egypt in January and stayed at the EMRO Suite while exploring ways to help us fund raise. One of them involved signing and promoting her recent book about a Mau, called "The Legend of Pa-Miu" at the Community Services Association (CSA) in Maaid, Cairo Egypt. All proceeds of the sales went to EMRO, and dozens of her books are available for sale in CSA's bookstore, as well as at select hotels in Cairo. Copies of her book can alsobe obtained directly from the author at: sphynixlady@yahoo.com.

In addition, Exotic Veterinarian Surgeon, Egyptian-American Dr. Mustafa Saleh also donated several copies of his book entitled "Adventures of the Heart" about his work with animals in America and elsewhere. Proceeds went to EMRO as well. He also brought some supplies from America for the EMRO vet clinic.

In Service Veterinary Sessions, January, 2008

Dr. Saleh donated time and expertise to provide some inservices not only to EMRO vets (on clinic organization and procedures, animal handling), but also to veterinarians to other shelters in an informal inservice at the Animal Friends shelter, where various spaying techniques were discussed as well as client and peer relationships protocols were examined. We hope to welcome Dr. Saleh back again in the near future and discuss possible animal health initiatives with him.

We had a number of interested inquiries from other non profit groups and individuals in the Middle East as well as Europe and North America.

Assorted angles of the recent garden built in planters along EMROs brick fence around the shelter. They provide shelter and a place for the feral and released cats to hide and play. As the plants become more mature they will create more shade, height and a jungle-like atmosphere. The cage is an extension of the boab's hut (guard) and serves as a half way "house" for release, and for isolation and other purposes as required. A wooden gate and trellis is planned in 2008 and a further isolation quarters in the back for cases of ringworm and cat flu.

EMRO Garden Fall, 2007

Thanks to the donations of our kind volunteer, Ms. Aida Marina of CA, USA (also our Sponsorship Manager), she donated funds to help us create a mini garden in the back and side of EMRO shelter to help provide shade and a place to hide for the feral cats recently released. A plaque of dedication (and memorium to deceased Maus) will be set up this spring.
