Volunteer Positions ASAP at EMRO

Adoption Manager -North America
Adoption Manager – Cairo, Egypt

Duties: Two positions required, or one person to cover both. To respond to international and local adoption and information requests for Egyptian Mau cats. Monitoring email, and updating Excel adoption and payment sheets. Making arrangements with airlines for shipping cats, and to liaison with pet escorts, making sure cat is ready to travel and arrives safely; some follow-up required. Applicant needs access to a home computer or, if local, may use the computer in EMRO HQ. Position requires speedy response time, usually within 1-2 days of receiving requests. It is a crucial and rewarding position requiring a responsible, tactful, patient person with a sense of humor who is able to cope with occasionally tight deadlines and work with other volunteer and office staff as a team player. Must be fluent in English. Arabic helpful for local position, but not absolutely required.

Location: For Local position: Ideal candidate ideally should be situated in Cairo and become familiar with the EMRO cats and to make phone calls to book cats on planes. Person does not have to come daily to EMRO HQ (Mokattam) but periodically to check on the cats.

For North America, the person can be located anywhere; North America ideally.

Hours/Days: Flexible, estimated 10-20 hours/month avg.

Position: Available ASAP. Applications are being taken until position is filled.
Please email info@emaurescue.org for further information or to apply.

Office Assistants

We can use some help in the office, keeping files updated, typing updates of cat’s details and keeping a database of cat information; arranging photos of cats available for adoption or sponsorship, keeping our “world map” updated at the shelter which displays where our cats have traveled to. Type travel forms for the vets and act as assistant to the main Office Administrator (currently vacant). Even one day a week, or a few hours a few times a week, would be a great help. Email info@emaurescue.org if this is of interest to you.

Pet Escorts

Do you travel periodically to Europe or to North America? We can always use Pet Escorts, especially to America. Please check the current list of Pet Escorts needed or provide us with your location, since adoptions come up suddenly. The Adopter covers all costs of cats travelling, including a honorarium of USD50 or EUR 30 to the Pet Escort to help get the cat to its destination. We ensure a hassle-free trip and get the cat to you at the airport on the date of departure with all the correct travel papers.  You are also placed in touch with the Adopter in order to exchange contact details upon arrival. We do need some time to get the paperwork processed and to ensure the Adopter will meet you on the date of travel.  So, the more time you can give us, the better it is, and the more likely we can make it work out for a cat waiting to reach its forever home overseas. Contact info@emaurescue.org for more information or to let us know your travel plans.

If you know of any travel agency who might also be able to help us out by advertising our need for Escorts, we would very much appreciate this, as it helps us get the word out to more travellers who may be potential Escorts.

Photographers

Volunteer photographers are needed to take photos occasionally at EMRO HQ, in Mokattam, of new and existing cats to post information on our website for cat adoptions and sponsorships. Also, photos required for occasional events or of others volunteering with the cats.

Can borrow EMRO’s digital camera or use own digital camera and be able to upload/download images to the office computer either directly or by email attachment.

Dates and times flexible.

Please email details to info@emaurescue.org or call 010-654-4707.

Needed as soon as possible. Must be local in Cairo, Egypt area.

Note: We have a couple of great part-time photographers, but more are always welcome!

Translators

Are you able to translate on occasion? We sometimes get requests for adoptions from different languages, including French, Italian, Spanish and Arabic. If you speak other languages and can periodically act as translator (mostly written) for us, please let us know. Contact info@emaurescue.org. Not necessary to be in Egypt for this, although if you are, we can perhaps contact you for local inquiries in other languages as needed. For instance, anyone interested in translating our website (at least initial info and cat bios) to another language, such as French or Arabic.  We could upload this for other cultures to view on our website.

Journalists

Are you a seasoned journalist or even a budding writer? Want to help spread the word about Egyptian Maus or shelter work in Cairo? Ideal if you live in Cairo and can visit and do some photojournalism, but not absolutely necessary. We would love to get additional advertising in local Cairo publications, the media, or through the Middle East, Europe or North America in regular magazines or print, such as cat or animal-related magazines. The more people who know about us, the better the chances that our cats will be adopted, as well as EMRO receiving extra funds to keep our doors open a little longer. Write us with your suggestions or availability at info@emaurescue.org.

Fundraisers

Any ideas for fundraising that might help us out? Do you do grant writing? Know any corporate company who might make donations of money or supplies (including veterinarian supplies)? Please let us know! We'd love to have you on board! Local or overseas.
Contact info@emaurescue.org.

Cat Socializers

Love cats? Live in Cairo? How about coming up to Mokattam to our shelter and socializing with our cats? They live long, lonely days in rooms, awaiting their forever home and would LOVE to meet you. Brushing, playing, even just keeping them company and providing a warm lap can do wonders to help keep the cats adoptable until their special person checks them out! Call the office in the afternoon at 2507-6946, or 0160128821 or email info@emaurescue.org.

Pet Therapists

Do massage? Healing work? For pets? We would like to welcome you to EMRO to administer to our cats when you have time. If you have any special talents or abilities you'd like to share, and live in the Cairo area, let us know. Contact info@emaurescue.org. Remote healers also welcome!

Donations of Cat Supplies and Toys Needed!

Are you a cat person? Do you have cat toys your cat no longer wants? Our shelter cats need cat posts, cat toys and anything else you can provide to make their long days awaiting a home more enjoyable. Please contact the office at 2507-6946 or mobile: 0160128821 or email info@emaurescue.org for pick-up or drop-off times of any donations (including old furniture, clothing, bedding, baskets etc.!)

Foster Homes

Sometimes our cats need foster homes while awaiting their overseas home, if they need to be in isolation due to a cold, or if we get too many kittens in at once, so we need temporary shelter. If you live in Cairo (ideally near Mokattam, but not absolutely required) and can help us out occasionally, please let us know. Email: info@emaurescue.org with your availability dates, location, and type of cat or kitten you can accommodate due to your schedule.
